Meet the Team

Major (Rtd) Lloyd Hamilton MBE

Major (Rtd) Lloyd Hamilton MBE has dedicated a significant portion of his life to the Royal Engineers, serving on tours across the globe, from Iraq to Singapore. His military experience, combined with his leadership and resilience, has shaped him into a versatile and highly skilled individual. Lloyd is a qualified Yacht Master with vast sailing experience, having taught hundreds, if not more, how to sail and pass on his love for the ocean.

In 2008, Lloyd co-founded “Toe in the Water”, a charity designed to improve the lives of injured servicemen and women through competitive sailing. The charity aimed to re-inspire those with injuries by offering them the opportunity to see beyond their challenges, helping them rebuild confidence and purpose.

Beyond sailing, Lloyd is also a trained ski instructor and an accomplished electrical engineer. Since meeting Charlotte, Lloyd has embraced her passion for animal welfare, even welcoming a menagerie of animals at home with open arms. His adventurous spirit, practical skills, and dedication to making a positive impact make him an integral part of the BoatVet mission, as he helps navigate the world and deliver care to animals in need.

Dr Charlotte Hamilton BVSc MRCVS

Dr. Charlotte Hamilton graduated in 2014 from the University of Bristol Vet School and began her career in mixed practice, before transitioning into small animal medicine. With a deep passion for wildlife, Charlotte has worked alongside several wildlife charities and organizations, contributing her skills and expertise to the conservation and care of animals in need.

A dedicated and skilled surgeon, Charlotte is always seeking ways to improve animal welfare, whether it’s through her clinical work or her volunteer efforts. Her love for animals extends beyond her professional life – at home, she often has a menagerie of creatures in need, from baby birds to foxes, the occasional badger, and even a seal pup!

Her dedication to improving the wellbeing of animals, both domestic and wild, fuels her passion for veterinary care and drives the mission of BoatVet.

Meet the BoatDogs

**Meet Our Dogs: Bella, Tarly, and Dylan**

Before we set off on this incredible journey with BoatVet, one of the first questions we considered was whether our beloved dogs would be joining us. The answer was always clear—we take their safety, health, and happiness as seriously as our own. The human-animal bond is something we value deeply, and we believe that having our dogs with us will enrich the journey for all of us. However, we also know the importance of ensuring their well-being doesn’t get compromised.

Dylan is a 2 year old Pomeranian cross Husky. He was rescued from a puppy farm as a young dog and has suffered with anxiety. He is, however coming out of his shell and is a wonderfully cheeky chap.

Tarly is a 9 year old Husky. He has been with Charlotte throughout most of her career and is very much a gentle teddy bear who hilariously loves heat. At home he can be found lying in front of the fire.

Bella is a 7 year old Border Collie. She belonged to a lovely lady who took great care of her but struggled when she developed epilepsy. Thankfully Bella’s seizures are under control, but she has unfortunately developed several other illnesses which are fairly complicated to manage.

Sadly, Bella will not be joining us on this adventure. She suffers from several health issues, and although we’re a veterinary treatment vessel, we don’t want to push her health beyond what’s safe, especially in remote locations where urgent care might not be as accessible. We know that managing her specialized care, including her prescription food and any potential emergencies, could be difficult. Thankfully, Charlotte’s parents have kindly offered to look after her, so she’ll be staying with them until we return, surrounded by love and care.

Tarly and Dylan, however, are ready to hit the road (or water) with us! We’re confident that their companionship will make this journey even more rewarding, and we are committed to ensuring their happiness and well-being throughout the voyage.
